Thursday, December 25, 2025, is Christmas Day. While most people spend that time with family or friends, some may want to tackle errands, like going to the bank. As a result, they may be wondering, “Are banks closed on Christmas Day 2025?” If you’d like to learn the answer to the question, here’s what you need to know.

Are Banks Closed on Christmas Day 2025?

Yes, banks are closed on Christmas Day 2025. Banks typically shut their doors on federal holidays, so customers won’t have access to teller services on Christmas. However, online banking and automated phone services are often available, though transactions may not process until the next business day, which in 2025 is Friday, December 26. Additionally, ATMs not located in the locked parts of banks will operate on Christmas Day.

Are Credit Unions Closed on Christmas Day 2025?

Like banks, credit unions are closed on Christmas Day 2025. They also follow the federal holiday schedule, so you won’t be able to speak to a teller for information or assistance. However, online, ATM, and automated phone-based services may still be available.

Bank and Credit Union Holiday Closures

Banks and credit unions usually close on federal holidays, making it easy to anticipate the closures. Here is a list of the days when banks and credit unions typically aren’t open in 2025:

  • New Year’s Day – Wednesday, January 1
  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Day – Monday, January 20
  • Presidents Day – Monday, February 17
  • Memorial Day – Monday, May 26
  • Juneteenth – Thursday, June 19
  • Independence Day – Friday, July 4
  • Labor Day – Monday, September 1
  • Columbus Day – Monday, October 13
  • Veterans Day – Tuesday, November 11
  • Thanksgiving Day – Thursday, November 27
  • Christmas Day – Thursday, December 25

Since banks and credit unions usually close on Sundays, they’re also incidentally closed on Easter (April 20, 2025), Mother’s Day (May 11, 2025), and Father’s Day (June 15, 2025). Additionally, in 2025, Christmas Eve (Wednesday, December 24) and New Year’s Eve (Wednesday, December 31) fall on weekdays, so banks may operate with reduced hours depending on the institution.
