Mother’s Helper Manages $650 Million Focusing On Heirs

Name: Nina Daoud

Firm: Ameriprise Financial Services

Location: Oxford, CT

AUM: $651 million

Forbes Rankings: Best-In-State Wealth Advisors, Best-In-State Women Advisors, America’s Top Next-Gen Wealth Advisors, Top Next-Gen Wealth Advisors Best-in-State, Best-In-State Wealth Management Teams

Background: Nina Daoud grew up in Connecticut and attended Fairfield University, where she majored in English and marketing. Though her mother, Nancy Daoud, was a well known advisor in the industry, she originally had no intention of joining the business, she recalls. After graduating in 2010, Daoud went to work for Clear Channel Radio as a sales account executive. It wasn’t until she started joining her mother at several advisor conferences that her interest in the business was sparked. Daoud joined her mother’s team, Opus: Advice First, in 2012 to help with marketing but soon began building relationships with many of their clients’ heirs. She got licensed and built a book of business that focused on the next generation of her mother’s clients.

Competitive Edge: Daoud says her competitive edge is her multigenerational approach to dealing with clients: “We’re really focusing on that next generation by looking at clients’ beneficiaries and making sure we’re developing relationships with them.”

Market Outlook: Daoud is cautiously optimistic about markets going forward. Her biggest concern is geopolitical risk overseas.

Succession Planning: “It’s so important to incorporate next-gen advisors into your practice—not only for the peace of mind of the advisor who built the practice but also from the client’s perspective,” says Daoud.

Best Advice: “The idea of being a solo practitioner in this industry is slowly dying—it’s more effective being part of a team in this business,” says Daoud. “You can’t be all things to everybody in this day and age.”
