New Year’s Day is the end of the holiday season and the first federal holiday of 2026. Banks and post offices will be closed in observance of New Year’s Day, but many retailers follow a different schedule and only close on a few federal holidays. Walmart will be open on New Year’s Day 2026.
Christmas Day is the only federal holiday when Walmart closes all stores. Walmart SuperCenters will be open 24 hours a day the entire week (including New Year’s Eve), and other Walmart stores will be open during their regular hours on both New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
Are Other Services Available?
Most Walmart stores have a bank, hair salon, nail salon, optician, or income tax preparation service inside the store. These service providers are independent of Walmart and do not follow the same operating hours. Check with your local store to see if those service providers will be closing early on New Year’s Eve or if they will be open on New Year’s Day.

Walmart.com offers free in-store pickup for many items. Shoppers can select merchandise online, pay in advance, and receive a notification when their order is ready. Some items may be available for same-day pickup.
