Monday, May 26, 2025, is Memorial Day. Since many people get the day off from work, it can be an ideal time to run various errands. Since Memorial Day is a federal holiday, not everything is open. If you’re wondering, “Are banks open on Memorial Day 2025?” here’s what you need to know.

Are Banks Open on Memorial Day 2025?

No, banks aren’t typically open on Memorial Day. In most cases, banks close on federal holidays, even though they aren’t technically required to do so. Since Memorial Day is a federal holiday, the majority of banks will close on May 26, 2025.

However, there are some potential exceptions. For example, bank branches located in retail stores or grocery stores may open, even if it’s a holiday. Some may use their regular operating hours, while others may have reduced hours. Still, many won’t open at all. As a result, it’s best to contact your nearest branch in advance to see if they’re closed on Memorial Day before making the trip.

Are Credit Unions Open on Memorial Day 2025?

Like banks, credit unions typically close on federal holidays. As a result, the majority won’t open on Memorial Day. The same possible exceptions can occur with credit unions. As a result, it’s wise to check with your nearby branches in advance to see if they’re open on May 26, 2025, in advance.

Bank and Credit Union 2025 Holiday Closures

While banks and credit unions can create their own holiday schedules, most align their calendars with the federal holiday schedule. As a result, you can use the federal holidays to figure out when banks and credit unions are usually closed.

Here’s an overview of the bank and credit union 2025 holiday closures:

  • New Year’s Day – Wednesday, January 1
  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Day – Monday, January 20
  • President’s Day – Monday, February 17
  • Memorial Day – Monday, May 26
  • Juneteenth – Thursday, June 19
  • Independence Day – Friday, July 4
  • Labor Day – Monday, September 1
  • Columbus Day – Monday, October 13
  • Veterans Day – Tuesday, November 11
  • Thanksgiving Day – Thursday, November 27
  • Christmas Day – Thursday, December 25

Further, banks and credit unions aren’t typically open on Sundays, so they’re coincidentally closed on other holidays, including Easter, Mother’s Day, and Father’s Day.
